Diamond Credit Union presented a seminar on the topics of budgeting and credit score to over 600 Reading High School Seniors. The program spanned 3 days and was part of the newly created Senior Days at Reading Senior High School.
The program was organized by the High School’s Career Center and also included presentations on other financial and college preparation topics. Diamond was involved to give these seniors a real understanding of how bank accounts work; budgeting for short‐term, mid‐term, and long‐term goals; and understanding the importance of maintaining a good credit score. Diamond’s Debt Counseling Manager, Paul Schwab, also shared some “Real Life Repo‐Man” stories to capture the students’ attention and reinforce the importance of calling your financial institution if you encounter a situation where you are unable to continue making loan payments.
One senior, Diana S., had this to say about the presentations. “To be honest I never thought of a ‘credit score’ or ‘budget’ but coming here and listening to you guys, made it seem much easier. Now I know that I have to be careful about how I spend money. Thank you for coming and taking some of your time to speak to us.”
In addition to participating in the Reading High School Senior Days presentation, Diamond has presented on similar topics to Pottstown School District and Daniel Boone School District as part of their personal finance curriculum. Diamond also offers seminars to local businesses for their employees on a variety of financial topics including Budgeting, Credit Score, Avoiding Identity Theft, Retirement Planning, Homebuying, and more.
