Diamond’s Breakthrough Account is specifically designed for young adults aged 12 to 17*. If that’s you or your child…keep reading. Diamond wants to help you start on the right foot so you can smash financial goals and build a strong financial future. Here’s how it works:
The Breakthrough Account is a checking/debit card account in which YOU are the primary account holder, and your parent/guardian is a joint owner on the account with you. With guidance from us, your parent/guardian, and online tools, you’ll learn how to save money, spend wisely, and manage your finances. There are no crazy requirements, restrictions, or monthly fees on this account.
Your Breakthrough Account includes:
- Visa Debit Card in your name – A debit card for your wallet and your Apple or Google digital wallet. A debit card gives you access to the money in your account anytime. Use your debit card for online or in-store purchases, or at ATMs to deposit or withdraw cash.
- Electronic Statements
- Text and Email Account Alerts
- Savings Account
- Mobile & Online Banking – Monitor your account with our mobile app, or if you don’t have a mobile phone, with a computer through online banking.

Diamond Visa Card App – Manage your debit card activity, set alerts, turn card on/off, and more.
Mobile Banking App – View account balances, transactions, deposits, withdrawals, and more.
Zogo App – Fun app that teaches financial skills and terms, and rewards your learning with gift cards.
However you make or spend your money, your Breakthrough Account will provide you with the tools to learn how to create and achieve the financial goals you set for yourself, and help you keep your spending in check.
What Happens When I Turn 18 Years Old?
One month after your 18th birthday, your Breakthrough Account will graduate to My Diamond Checking, which works very similarly. Don’t worry, we’ll give you plenty of notice before the account switch and help you through the transition.
To open your Breakthrough Account, schedule an in-person appointment with your parent/guardian at your local Diamond branch.
*Breakthrough Account is for young adults aged 12 to 17 with the minor as the primary owner on the account. Both the minor (primary owner) and parent/guardian (joint owner) must be present to open the account and must present official identification. The minor can provide identification in the form of a birth certificate, social security card, or student identification with photo. Both the priamry and joint owners have equal ownership and authority over the account. Breakthrough Account does not qualify for overdraft protetion or the online bill payer service. Debit cards on this account are exempt from non-use fees. Breakthrough Accounts will be converted to My Diamond Checking at the end of the month after the owner’s 18th birthday. Notifications and documentation will be provided prior to account conversion.
