Diamond Credit Union, Redner’s Warehouse Market and other local businesses sponsored the Adalyn Rose Foundation’s first Duck Derby, which took place on Sunday, August 25 at Jim Dietrich Park during Muhlenberg Township’s Riverfest.
The Adalyn Rose Foundation (ARF) raised $40,400 to help local families. The ARF offers free support to families grieving the loss of a baby or young child. The proceeds from the Duck Derby will fund bereavement training, remembrance carts, memorials, care packages, support groups, workshops for couples, community events and individual therapy.
A Duck Derby is when rubber ducks are launched into a river and the ducks “race” to the finish line with the current. Diamond Credit Union’s Senior Vice President and Chief Member Experience Officer, Todd Rothenberger, is also a Board Member for the ARF. He explained how the derby came about.
“When I first met with the foundation, I had mentioned the idea of a duck derby, and by chance they had also been thinking of having one. We then made it our mission to have the Adalyn Rose Foundation’s first Duck Derby, and we wanted to involve the community too. We went to Muhlenberg Township and pitched the idea, and we joined together to make it happen during RiverFest at Jim Dietrich Park.”
Diamond Credit Union and Redner’s Warehouse Markets sold ducks in person, along with the ARF selling ducks online. Diamond branches were able to sell 1,000 of the 2,473 rubber ducks that went for a swim in the Schuylkill River. There were ten winners that received prizes ranging from a $100 gift card to $1,000 cash.

“Diamond and the ARF first connected six years ago at our hospital branch,” Rothenberger said. “We have supported the foundation throughout the years, and it was an honor to sponsor this event along with Redner’s Warehouse Market. Diamond Credit Union exists to support the financial and community needs of organizations like the Adalyn Rose Foundation.”
